Tang Moot Court Regional Competitions


ONLINE ENTRY FEE

The registration fee is $550 per team.

ONLINE REGISTRATION

Each law school is limited to two teams. Registration is limited to the first twelve teams to register in each region, unless extended at the sole discretion of the Tang National Committee. The registration deadline is August 25, 2023, at 11:59 PM PST. Brief assignments and team numbers will be assigned as teams register for the competition. It is highly recommended that teams register as soon as possible to expedite assignments.

Regional Competitions will tentatively be held on the following dates, subject to the discretion of the National Committee:

  • Regional 1: October 6, 2023

  • Regional 2: October 7, 2023

  • Regional 3: October 13, 2023

Teams should be prepared to argue both sides. Petitioner/Respondent assignments will be provided twenty-four hours before the first preliminary round.

Twelve teams will advance to Nationals. Regional Champions will automatically qualify, with the remaining advancing teams to be determined by the National Committee. All oral arguments will be heard on Friday, November 10, 2023, and Saturday, November 11, 2023, in Indianapolis.

Regional 1

Northeast: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. 

Southeast: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia; the District of Columbia; the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico; and the Territory of the Virgin Islands. 

Central: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

Regional 2

Southwest: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah. 

Northwest: Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, and Wyoming; the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands; the Territory of American Samoa; and the Territory of Guam.

All dates are tentative and subject to change at the discretion of the National Committee.

Foreign non-U.S. law school teams are welcome to register. The National Committee may also invite foreign law school teams that did not participate in the Regional Competition to compete at the National Competition. 

The National Committee reserves the right to reallocate teams to different regions and oral argument dates at its discretion. Participants should attempt to keep all oral argument dates available until region and oral argument date assignments are finalized shortly after registration closes.
